Summer's over, now what? Adventure! Part 1

As the sun sets on another tour season, we prepare to hibernate during the long winter. Unlike our animal counterparts, we intend to be fully productive during that time. For a seasonal business like ours, it gives us an annual re-set button to assess what has been successful, what could use some tweaking, and what exciting opportunities we can bring to the city and region for 2018!

Of course, none of that helps winter visitors to our region, or even residents for that matter, looking for a helping hand to get excited about something over the winter. A handful of our favourite attractions close over the extended winter season, but some remain open and of course - as winter does - for some attractions this is their prime operating season.

The spectacular beauty of our region does not hibernate in the winter, it merely puts on its coat and looks different now than any other time of year - from the comfort of indoors or a vehicle, nothing can beat it! Of course if you're willing to brave the cold, even more fun and adventure awaits!

Did you know this region is one of the Top 3 Ice Climbing destinations in the world?Well it is! Check it out with Outdoor Skills and Thrills. This world class destination is accessible to visitors to the city because of world class climber Aric Fishman who brings years of experience and can find a climb to suit just about anyone. You'll have an opportunity to see the region from a viewpoint few have seen.

If that's a little TOO extreme for your tastes, why not check out the Nipigon Ice Fest; there will still be ice climbing but there will be many more activities, experiences and opportunities during this festival including a pizza fundraiser and guided snowshoeing for those less inclined to be inclined!

Looking for fun with the whole family? Look no further than Boreal Journeys Sled Dog Kennel, experiencing one of the true north's best offerings - dogsledding! Great fun for the whole family!

If you prefer to explore at your own pace and leisure - a number of our spectacular provincial parks are still open in winter, including the famous Kakabeka Falls and Sleeping Giant provincial parks. Please note some trails and services may not be available, Kakabeka Falls is an easily navigable park in winter, Sleeping Giant can be a little trickier - plan accordingly.

This is just a small portion of what our visitors can see and do in Thunder Bay during our off-season - plenty more where that came from, follow us on Facebook to keep posted!
